The Hello Heritage event is returning in a Covid19-safe format this month.

North West Leicestershire District Council and South Derbyshire District Council have been working together to ensure Hello Heritage can return for its fourth year in 2020.

Between Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 20, new informative heritage boards will be displayed around numerous towns and villages across the two districts.

And 10 short films will also be launched online, introducing fascinating tales of local heritage.

From discovering the ruins of Grace Dieu Priory, to the resting place of social reformer Charles Booth, there is a lot of unusual and interesting heritage tales to learn about.

Community groups and organisations of all kinds have played a pivotal role in supporting the district councils in pulling together the information for the new displays, and the content for the videos.

The boards will be displayed in several spots across the following locations: Hartshorne, Worthington, Barrow on Trent, Swannington, St Helen's - Ashby de la Zouch, Measham, Appleby Magna, Diseworth, Belton, Whitwick, Thringstone, Coalville, Griffydam and Hugglescote and Donington le Heath.

The boards, along with the short films, will also be available online so they can be viewed from the comfort of everyone's own home. People can simply visit the Hello Heritage page.

Councillor Tony Gillard, Portfolio Holder for Business and Regeneration at north West Leicestershire District Council, said: "Finding a way to deliver a version of Hello Heritage in a safe way has been a challenge but community groups have risen to the challenge in supporting us to make it happen.

"Both North West Leicestershire and South Derbyshire have a huge amount of heritage and history just waiting to be discovered, so I'd really encourage people to get involved. Enjoy the online videos and head out to see the heritage boards while always keeping social distancing in mind."

Councillor Martyn Ford, South Derbyshire District Council's Leader said: "Our area has some wonderful heritage and I am pleased to say that a way has been found to celebrate them despite the restrictions due to the current global pandemic.

"I hope people will join in while maintaining social distancing by viewing the boards and watching the online videos."

Covid-permitting, the councils are hopeful that next year's Hello Heritage will be able to take place during Spring.
