Two new cases of Coronavirus have been identified in North West Leicestershire during the last 24 hours.

It means the current figures for the district on Tuesday, September 1, are: 351 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 338 - which is the lowest in the county.

Fewer than 20 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the city and county combined for the second day running.

The number of new cases added to local tolls today stands at 18. During the height of the pandemic, some 97 cases were confirmed in Leicester alone on one day.

New cases and the seven-day rate continues to drop in the city and county. In spite of the decrease, it was announced on Friday that some local lockdown restrictions will remain in the city until Friday September 11.

Ten of today's cases were in the city. Broken down to district and borough level, Harborough saw the largest increase with three new cases confirmed, Hinckley and Bosworth added two cases to its cumulative total and two cases were identified in North West Leicestershire.

Blaby, Melton and Oadby and Wigston – areas public health bosses warned residents about before the bank holiday weekend – all saw no new cases recorded.

The figures updated at 4pm on Tuesday, September 1, are:

Leicester – 5,724 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,618

Blaby – 574 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 565.4

Charnwood – 916 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 492.3

Harborough – 432 total cases -. Rate per 100,000 population: 460

North West Leicestershire – 351 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 338

More pupils across the city and county returned to school today with some headteachers and education chiefs issuing pleas to parents to stick to social distancing when dropping off and collecting kids.

Local rates will surely be closely monitored in light of pupils heading back to class.

It also emerged today that a man from Plymouth was offered an appointment for a coronavirus test at a centre in Leicester, almost 200 miles from his home address.
