Ashby Ivanhoe 1 Rossington Main 0

Top goalscorer Sam Grouse was rested for Ashby's FA Cup tie with Rossington Main - but the forward still made his mark, curling the winner home in the dying embers of the match as Ivanhoe progressed.

A recurring theme of Ashby's season has been their significantly improved second half performance and this was no exception.

The visitors were the more threatening side in the first half and came closest when Manasse Kianga forced Sam Taylor into the save of the match as he sprawled to his left to turn the ball wide.

Ivanhoe grew into the half and could have taken the lead before the break when James Harrison found himself one on one with Lewis Hill.

Harrison was able to switch the ball to his favoured right foot but was still denied by Hill who saved with his feet.

The second half began as the first had finished, with Ivanhoe in the ascendancy.

Despite this they were unable to create many clear-cut chances without Grouse on the pitch.

He entered the fray shortly before the hour mark and almost made an instant impact, his one on one however was once again saved by Hill.

The visitors best chance of the half came when the dangerous Ross Hannah attempted to lob Taylor from inside the centre circle. The ball hung up in the air for an agonising amount of time, but Ashby blushes were spared when it fell safely onto the roof of the net.

The hosts continue to push and came close again through Joe Neal, who rose above everyone to meet Gabe Webster's corner. His header was scrambled off the line as fellow centre back Liam Storer failed to turn home the rebound.

Ashby's pressure paid off however as the game entered the final six minutes. Grouse picked the ball up on the edge of the box and fooled two defenders by shifting onto his weaker left foot, then unleashing a shot which curled into the far corner.

There was a significant sense of relief amongst most fans at the NFU Sports Ground as a Tuesday night replay loomed, and nobody in attendance could argue that a goal had not been coming for Ivanhoe who seized control the moment the half began.

After going behind, Main pushed for a late equaliser but had left it too late and Ashby's resolute defence held firm in the remaining minutes.

Andy Gray's team will find out their opponents for the First Qualifying Round in Monday's draw, with attention then turning back to the league on Saturday with the visit of high-flying Lincoln United.
