Man, 41, arrested in drugs raid at Ashby town centre property after substances were found
A man was arrested following a drugs raid on an address in Ashby town centre last Friday.
Police found class A and B drugs at the property - and a 41-year-old man was taken into custody, but has since been released under investigation.
North West Leicestershire Police posted online last week: "Officers have conducted a drugs warrant at an address in Ashby today.
"Both class A and class B drugs have been located, with one in custody."
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police confirmed the property was in Market Street and added: "A 41-year-old man who was arrested has been released."
The social media post from North West Leicestershire Police had the hashtag, #Yousaidwedid.
The incident follows assurances from the town's beat team that the drugs problem in Ashby would be addressed.
Reducing anti-social behaviour and drug activity were among a list of priorities issued last month.
A document titled 'new beat priorities' was issued via the Neighbourhood Link service included a section saying that drug activity of all kinds will 'contribute to the primary aim' of making sure Ashby is a safer environment for all residents and visitors.
In May, Leicestershire's Police & Crime Commissioner, Rupert Matthews, came to Ashby for talks with local councillors about the town's drug issues.
At the time, he said: "I cannot give orders, that's for the Chief Constable, but I can do some 'prodding' at the other end and ask questions.
"If I know what the right question to ask is, I can get quite a bit done.
"I can asking about the costs of getting drugs dogs into Ashby."
