Football: Ashby Ivanhoe Carry Out Drainage Work After Rain-Hit Winter

Ashby Ivanhoe FC have taken steps to improve drainage at their NFU Ground after seeing a string of games called off this winter.

The club are now facing playing as many as four games in a week to catch up with their Midland League Division One backlog.

Ivanhoe are due to host Hinckley AFC on Saturday but saw another game postponed on Tuesday night when they had planned to play Paget Rangers.

But the club have made it clear they are addressing the situation by trying to ease the waterlogging problem at the Lower Packington Road venue.

Ivanhoe posted on their Facebook page. |As many are aware, this winter period has been a challenge as the pitch has struggled with the ridiculous volume of rain we have had over the last four months or so.

"Various pitch works have been carried out to try and resolve the issue and hundreds of hours have been spent by Ian and Stuart forking it and laying tonnes of sand!

"Recently, we have had to take a different tougher approach and have dug trenches through problem areas and laid down long lengths of flexible land drain topped with pea gravel in an effort to allow the water to drain better off the pitch!

"We would like to thank Mark Pepper, Jamie (thanks to OakGreen Construction for lending him to us for two days!), Sean Nicholes for lending us his Mini-Digger, Jon Emmerson and our ever present team of volunteers for all their efforts and helping where possible over the last few weeks - its very much appreciated!

"More work is planned in to improve the drainage for the summer - but for now let's hope that this recent works helps us get games played."
