Flood Alert Issued For Ashby Area and River Mease

By Graham Hill 20th Jan 2021

A flood alert has been issued for the Ashby area - with Gilwiskaw Brook and the River Mease at risk.

The Government's Flood Alert Service published details on Tuesday night and is due to give an updates during Wednesday.

With Storm Christoph coming in and bringing heavy rain, an amber alert had already been issued across much of the East Midlands.

A Alert means that flooding is possible and people in the area should be prepared.

The FLA says: "River levels are rising at the Clifton Hall river gauge as a result of heavy rain associated with Storm Christoph.

"Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected overnight.

"Flooding is affecting the Harlaston to Edingale Road and low-lying land and roads adjacent to the River Mease and Gilwiskaw Brook between Ashby and Croxall.

"Further heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours and we expect river levels to continue to rise going into Wednesday 20/01/21.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and our incident response staff are liaising with professional partners and actively checking river levels and the weather forecast.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths and bridges near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water.

"Please stay aware in case flood warnings are issued. This message will be updated tomorrow morning before 09:00, Wednesday 20/01/21, or as the situation changes."
