Family to run Race for Life in memory of 'force of nature' Packington Gran
By Grace Kennington 8th Feb 2026
This June, a local family will be taking part in a 10k Race for Life in memory of 'hilarious' and 'quite indescribable' gran.
Janet Timms, a grandmother from Packington, passed away on 14 February 2025 from cancer.
Janet's grandchildren and their partners have come together to raise money in loving memory of her and in support of Janet's daughter Jayne, who has just started her battle with cancer after being diagnosed in January.
Janet was diagnosed with lung cancer and secondary breast cancer in October 2024, given just 12 months to live. She passed on 14 February 2025 at home, with her daughters and grandchildren around her, a month before the birth of her first great granddaughter.

Daughter of Jayne and granddaughter of Janet, Amelia Whyte said: '[My gran] is really quite indescribable, she was hilarious and a very strong lady, not afraid to tell people what she thought of them (including us) but also loved us just as fiercely.'
Less than a year after Janet passed away, her daughter Jayne was diagnosed with breast cancer on 6 January 2026.
She is still waiting on some final tests but the family are hopeful that with surgery and some treatment, she will make a full recovery.
Amelia, Alex, Elizabeth, Connor and Daniel are doing the 10km Race for Life in Derby this June. Asa group, they hope to raise £800 in memory of Janet and out of support for Jayne.
