Fairground ride will be set up in Ashby to make sure link is not broken - after Market Street event was postponed for a week
A small fairground ride will be set up in Ashby on Saturday to make sure the historical 'statute' is honoured.
The annual Ashby Statutes event has been postponed for a week because it would have clashed with the period of mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
With a state funeral now taking place on Monday, it was considered completely inappropriate to have held the fair at the same time.
It now been put back a week and will begin on Friday, September 23.
However, there will be a token ride in place this Saturday to mark the event that would have taken place.
Ashby de la Zouch Town Council says: "Following a conversation with the Harris family of Pat Collins Fun Fair, a small children's ride will be placed on Brook Street car park, on Saturday, September 17.
"The ride will be assembled and operational for one hour, and it will not be open to the public - the children of the family will use the ride.
"This follows the same protocol that was put in place in September 2020 when the event was cancelled due to Covid.
"The purpose of assembling and operating the ride is to ensure that the 'Statute' is honoured and that there is no break in the statute.
"This will be done respectfully and the placement of it on Brook Street as opposed to Market Street is to ensure that it is in a discreet location as possible."
