Work is set to begin in the controversial new secure residential institution in Ashby.

North West Leicestershire District Council has given permission for demolition work to start at the Loudon House site in Ridgway Road.

Last April, plans by the Rushcliffe Care Group to build a 'new secure residential institution facility' were given the go-ahead despite strong opposition from residents and Ashby de la Zouch Town Council.

The former care home will now make way for the new building.

The District Council's planning applications, listed this week, confirm the "Demolition of existing care home and redevelopment of site to erect a new secure residential institution care facility (use class C2A secure hospital) with parking" has been permitted.

Over 770 people signing a petition against the Ridgway Road development.

But, in what was described as an 'emotional' debate among councillors at the district council planning committee meeting five months ago, objections were raised as to the location and the design of the building that has been proposed - following the scheduled demolition of the current structure.

Here is how Ashby Nub News reported the proposals over the past 18 months, click on the links to read the articles.
