Cyclist is taken to hospital after collision with car in Ashby which caused road to be closed

A cyclist has been taken to hospital after a collision with a car in Ashby this morning (Wednesday).

The incident happened around 8.30am on Tamworth Road.

East Midlands Ambulance Service was called and the road was closed off for around three and a half hours - with police confirming it has been re-opened just after mid-day.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: "Around 8.30am, on Wednesday 16 June officers, received a report of a collision between a car and a bicycle on Tamworth Road, Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

"The road was closed while officers and East Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene.

"A man - the cyclist - was taken to Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham with what are believed to be non-life changing injuries.

"The road remained closed while investigations took place."
