Leicestershire County Council has released figures for the number of recorded Coronavirus cases - including those in North West Leicestershire.

The Public Health England-sourced statistics are from February 5 to July 4.

And they reveal there have been 305 Covid-19 cases in North West Leicestershire.

That includes 180 Pillar 1 cases, that is data from swab testing in PHE labs and NHS hospitals for those with a clinical need, and health and careworkers.

There were also 130 Pillar 2 cases, that is data from swab testing for the wider population, as set out in Government guidance.

However, compared to the rest of Leicestershire, North West Leicestershire's figures are one of the lowest - Charnwood recorded 765 cases over the same period.

But the data also shows that Ashby South was among the worst-hit areas outside of Leicester with 10 cases - Oadby South and West recorded 15.

The Council says it has released more detailed data as part of efforts to urge residents to play their part in tackling the rate of coronavirus infection in the county.

It adds on its website: "The council hopes this new data will send a strong signal to all those in Leicestershire that the county must pull together to fight the spread."

The County Council explained how they arrive at the figures: "The report is based on daily data up to 4 July 2020.

"The maps presented in the report examine counts and rates of COVID-19 at Middle Super Output Area.

"Middle Layer Super Output Areas are a census-based geography used in the reporting of small area statistics in England and Wales. The minimum population is 5,000 and the average is 7,200.

"Disclosure control rules have been applied to all figures not currently in the public domain. All counts have been rounded to the nearest 5 and those between1 to 7 have been suppressed.

"Data has been sourced from Public Health England."

Ashby's figures are part of confirmed COVID-19 cases by Middle Layer Super Output Area.

North West Leicestershire's rate per 100k of the population is 302.

But Leicester's rate is 1,116 per 100,000 population and is currently in local lockdown.

Nick Rushton, leader of Leicestershire County Council, addressed frustration over the lockdown boundary and said: "Our residents' response to coronavirus has been exemplary.

"But this is the biggest health crisis in living memory – and there's still work to do to get on top of this virus before it grows further in Leicestershire.

"This situation is unprecedented and there is no trigger rate for lockdown.

"As I've said, our map is far from perfect.

"We have to draw lines somewhere but I understand people's frustration with the lockdown boundary.

"That's why we have been working with Public Health England to secure agreement to share information which means that today, we can publish more localised data.

"Times remain challenging but you can help to save lives and livelihoods.

"Wherever you live, do the right thing. Keep your distance, wash your hands, spot the symptoms and get a test if you need one."
