Local agricultural workers are plannig to stage a tractor run into Ashby to show support for the NHS and care workers this Thursday.

The area's farming and produce community is coming together during the weekly Clap for our Carers night each Thursday while Coronavirus restrictions are in place.

The run plans to go through some of the town's housing estates before finishing up on Market Street.

Tractors will meet at Livesey Brothers Mushroom Farm in Packington and display banners supporting the NHS and care workers.

Organisers have issued a statement for anyone who wants to take part or see the vehicles on the night.

Livsey Bros' Tim Livesey said: "We as members of UK agriculture need to show our support for the NHS and all the care workers during this tough time.

"We have called upon them at some point in the past and will do again in the future.

"Agriculture doesn't always get a good report in the public eye and it's about time we started doing something about it!

"The plan is to meet at the mushroom farm (LE65 1XA) to depart 19.40hrs this Thursday evening 23rd April.

"We will be meeting from 19.20hrs onwards for a briefing on where we will be going.

"We plan to be on show during the weekly clap for the NHS.

"We've got a route around Ashby up through all the housing estates and then finishing by going up the Main Street at which point we will be done and everyone will head home from the top of town.

'We are getting 2x2 different banners made to go on a trailers at the front and the back saying: 'UK Agriculture applauds the NHS' and 'UK agriculture supports our Care-workers'

"The cost is £10 per tractor which must be paid as we leave the Mushroom Farm - all money will be donated to NHS charitable causes.

"It is important that it's one tractor only and 1 person per tractor to make sure we are seen to be social distancing."
