A car was petrol-bombed outside a Moira home on Saturday night - and police have issued an appeal for information about the incident which the family say could have been 'catastrophic'
Leicestershire Police have confirmed that it took place at a house in Ashby Road just after 10pm.
The car belonged to Mark Lyford who says the car was targeted just 'feet from my house'.
A police spokeswoman told Ashby Nub News: "We are investigating an incident in which a car was set alight on Saturday, April 18th.
"Enquiries are continuing and anyone with any information is asked to contact 101."
The car belonged to Mark Lyford who described the horrifying events in detail on his Facebook page.
Mr Lyford posted: "My car was firebombed on Saturday night just feet from my house.
"Please help to catch this horrible b******s who did this to us."
Mr Lyford also posted a clip of the burned out Vauxhall with the message: "My girlfriend Gabi is devastated and my son Zandie is traumatised by this.
"They watched this car go up in flames just feet away from them and our house.
"Like I was saying only yesterday morning I really do wonder why I bother and ask myself what's the point.
"Had enough folks... totally had enough... However I must say thanks to everyone who has messaged me with support.
"Could you please share this to help us identify and catch these monsters. If you have any information that could help with the investigation please call Leicestershire Police the crime number is 20000199303."
Mr Lyford's partner Gabi also posted about the horrifying incident: "One senseless and mindless attack made a massive impact in our lives.
"Our car got petrol bombed. It all happened so quickly. They knew what they were doing.
"I saw the car going up in flames in a split second.
"They threw a full canister on the back seat and ignited it. Next to the petrol tank of the car.
"Had it not been for our next door neighbours who had an extinguisher the end result would have been catastrophic.
"And I'm not joking. Our neighbours have been amazing in all this. I can't thank them enough.
"I was hysterical. I couldn't even think properly. This kind of things don't happen to me. To us. We're just normal people.
"In all the madness that was going on in the street trying to put the fire out, a couple randomly stopped to check on Zandie who was very upset. They called over today just to say hi and check on us. Another wonderful gesture of kindness."
