A number of events and meetings are being called off in the Ashby area as a result of the Coronavirus spread.

On Tuesday morning, North West Leicestershire Police Rural Crime Team cancelled their planned interactive event in Packington scheduled for later this month.

They posted: "I regret to inform you that our Interactive Rural Event on Saturday, March 28, 2020 has been postponed in order to follow current guidance surrounding the Coronavirus What Ashby Needs To Know

"Should you wish to speak to the North West Leicestershire Rural Crime Team, contact us via 101/999."

Ashby Art Club has also decided to suspend their meetings.

They let members know online and posted: "In light of today's COBRA meeting and the briefing by the Prime Minister, we have taken the decision to cancel all meetings of the club until further notice, starting today.

"We are sorry to have to take this step but the health and well being of our members is important to us.

"Please keep an eye open here during the next few weeks where we will be posting challenges for members to take part in if they are stuck at home. Anyone with ideas for challenges please let us know."

The 4th Ashby de la Zouch Scout also posted: "In light of the announcement this evening by the Prime Minister to avoid all unnecessary social contact, we must for the present time suspend meetings.

"As guidance is established and the situation becomes more clear we will be in touch to outline plans. We will also keep in touch about camps and activities that have been planned.

"In the meantime, section leaders will keep in touch with badges and activities you can do at home."
