Leicestershire County Council would like to remind parents and carers that the deadline to apply for places at Leicestershire secondary schools for autumn 2026 are closing soon. 

The deadline for applications to be sent to the County Council is Friday 31st October. 

Applications can be filled out on the Leicestershire County Council website, along with tips about applications and additional information. 

Cabinet member for children and families, Councillor Charles Pugsley said: 'We want parents and carers to know that the closing date is approaching and that it's important to apply before that passes. 

'If you don't, your application will be closed after those made on time. There's no automatic entry for any of our schools. 

'We'd suggest taking a look online, downloading our digital checklist and, when you're ready, you can apply via our parent portal.' 

Applicants can select up to five school preferences, and it's strongly recommended to include your catchment area school in the top five. 

Applications for children starting primary school for the first time in autumn 2025, and for infant to junior transfers, need to be made by 15 January. 

Allocated school places will be announced on national offer days – on 2 March 2026 for secondary schools and 16 April 2026 for children starting primary school.
