Castle Medical Group in Ashby has taken the first steps towards offering Covid vaccinations at its Burton Road surgery.

The Health Centre has a limited supply of the Astra Zeneca vaccine - but it is a one off for the moment.

But Castle Medical says, depending on future supplies, patients could be vaccinated in Ashby rather than at the Measham Leisure Centre hub which has been operating for the past fortnight.

A post on the Castle Medical Facebook page says that the vaccine has been offered to all of its patients over 80 years old - and is now moving on to the over-75s age group.

Their post reads: "In addition to this, we have been fortunate to have been allocated a small supply of Astra Zeneca vaccines that we will be offering at Castle Medical Group.

"Please note this is a one-off supply at this time and we hope that future opportunities will become available to us.

"Please do bear with the team as depending on where vaccine stock is available will depend on whether we offer an appointment at Castle Medical Group or Measham Leisure Centre."

The Group goes on to explain who has been vaccinated so far.

The message adds: "Great progress has been made with vaccinating our patients.

"We have now vaccinated our care home patients and their staff. The vaccine has been offered to all patients over 80 and we have had really good uptake.

"We are now booking patients in who are over 75. Please do not ring the practice we will ring you to book your appointment.

"Plans to vaccinate housebound patients are being finalised and we hope to be able to start these visits soon.

"As soon as our over-75s are booked in, we will start on those over 70.

"Vaccinations are being undertaken at Measham Leisure Centre as the central hub for North West Leicestershire and we continue to work alongside our practice colleagues to support this.

"Across North West Leicestershire 5,000 vaccines have now been given which is a great achievement in a short space of time."
