Ashby United Community Football Club has launched a challenge to see how far they as a community can travel around the world by exercising during the UK lockdown.

Anyone in the community is welcome to take part in the challenge with any form of exercise counting, a walk, run, cycle etc - as long as the exercise can be tracked via Strava it counts.

It has been running since mid-January and, each week, the club publish an update on how far they have travelled around the world, the wonderful places visited and who are the top contributors with spot prizes being awarded for the fun mini-challenges they have planned.

The club's website says: "Lockdowns can be a challenging time for the whole community with people feeling cut off from family and friends, regular exercise is a great way to help relieve any feelings of anxiety or depression whilst connecting with the wonderful community we have in Ashby virtually.

"You can join anytime and its completely free! All you have to do is download the Strava app on your phone and search for Ashby United CFC. Then just start exercising and log your route through the app. Once you finish and upload the exercise to your account it will be automatically visible to the club, counting your miles towards the journey.

"Don't forget to take your selfies and share them with us as well in the app, you never know, you might appear in one of the places we visit!

"We are really looking forward to this fun challenge and engaging with you all, you can join our Strava club now HERE.

"Please make sure you are following all the applicable Government guidelines when conducting your daily exercise in a safe and sensible manner."
