Cold water swimming sessions are being planned at Ashby Lido from this September - if enough people are interested.

From September 5, the outdoor pool season ends and it will no longer be heated.

It is then planned to have two, two hour, adults only, swimming sessions per week, between 8-10am on days to be decided.

Ashby Lido set for May relaunch

The idea has been put forward by Melanie Gwinnutt who says: "The management at Hood Park have done some very careful costings.

"They calculate that we will need 27 people per session paying £7 each, to break even. This will be an additional charge on top of any memberships currently held.

"Going forward it would be good if these sessions could be extended to more months, both before and after the regular seasons.

"We are aware that cold water swimming has become very popular, particularly during the pandemic, but the health benefits have been widely reported for quite a while.

"Obviously we would like to hear from as many people as possible. There is no commitment and indeed no guarantee that the sessions will take place.

"Since a few of us have been requesting this for several years it is great that our request is finally being considered. Perhaps one benefit of an otherwise dreadful pandemic.

"I am happy to answer any questions that I can. If I don't know the answers I will refer to the management at Hood Park."
