The Co-op store in Moira was broken into during the early hours of Wednesday - with burglars trying to steal the supermarket's cash machine.

On this occasion, the would-be thieves failed to get what they wanted - and drove off towards Ashby.

Now, Leicestershire Police has launched an investigation into the incident.

It is not the first time the store in Shortheath Road has been targeted by burglars, with a number of similar incidents reported in recent years.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "An investigation is underway after a shop in Shortheath Road, Moira, was broken into around 2.15am yesterday (Wednesday, February 28).

"An attempt was made to steal the ATM from inside the premises.

"The suspects made off empty handed in a vehicle towards Ashby.

"If anyone has any information about the incident they are urged to contact 101 or click HERE, quoting crime number 24*119962."
