Organisers of Ashby's Jubilee Street Party tomorrow (Sunday) will be hoping stormy weather steers clear of the town after the Met Office issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms.

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has arranged the party as the highlight of the town's Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

It is set to be a 300-table strong event that has attracted national publicity in past years.

But the advice earlier this week was to 'bring a brolly'.

And now the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms across much of England between midnight tonight (Saturday) and 6pm tomorrow.

Partygoers will be hoping any bad weather edges past Ashby.

But the Met Office warning reads: "Thunderstorms developing over parts of England and Wales from early Sunday may cause travel disruption and, in a few places, flooding.

What to expect

• Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life and some communities might become cut off if roads flood

• Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

• Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services

• Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

• Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
