Next week's planned Ashby Statutes event has been postponed due to the death of Queen Elzabeth II.

The decision has been taken to avoid clashing with the period of mourning.

North West Leicestershire District Council is currently working with Pat Collins Fun Fairs and Ashby de la Zouch Town Council to reschedule the Statutes.

The event was due to take place from Friday, September 16, to Tuesday, September 20, with the road closures in place from Thursday, September 15, to Wednesday, September 21.

The proposed new arrangements are for the event to take place the following week from Friday, September 23, to Tuesday, September 27, with the road closure in place from Thursday, September 22 to Wednesday, September 28.

Full details of the new dates are expected to be confirmed early next week.

Ashby Town Council says its priority next week will be to work with Leicestershire County Council to ensure that the new road closure order is processed and approved to allow the event to take place.
