Ashby's Big Weekend this year has been cancelled as the organisers felt that due to rising costs it is a struggle to keep it alive.

The Bath Ground event was originally born out of the Covid lockdown a welcome change as people began to attend live events again.

But last year's Big Weekend struggled to get the numbers needed to run the event, especially with the increase in infrastructure costs for 2024.

Sharon Keevins, one of the main organisers of the event, said: "With the cost of living crisis ongoing at the moment, ticket sales were slow.

"We did eventually get a decent footfall, but to be sustainable going forwards we needed more people.

"Some people felt it was too expensive, but we were selling tables of six, it wasn't much per head at an average of £30 per adult for the entire weekend.

"What some don't realise is that the cost of living doesn't just hit people coming to the event, the organisers are also affected.

"We have to buy everything in, from fencing to toilets and everything has gone up.

"Every year you have to be looking for the funding for the next one. All staff leading up to the event and on the day work voluntarily so savings could not even be saved there."

The organisers announced last week on social media that the event would not be happening in 2024.

A statement reads: "Unfortunately, with a sudden withdrawal of support for this year's event, support that we rely on to help hold the event and make it possible, we have had to take the decision to cancel Ashby Big Weekend for 2024.

"We will regroup and look at other options for future events and hope to come back again in future years.

"A massive thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years. We will all miss you.

"It's been a pleasure and a privilege to see so many happy smiling faces at our events and that at the end of the day is why we held Ashby Big Weekend."
