Members of the three Ashby Rotary clubs will be collecting tomorrow (Saturday, October 23) to raise funds to help eradicate Polio.

They will be in Market Street and both the Tesco and Aldi supermarkets.

Over the last 30 years, Rotary and its partners have reduced Polio cases from 350,000 in 125 countries to just a handful in two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Money is still needed to make the final push to eradicate the disease worldwide.

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has agreed to illuminate the Loudon Memorial in Bath Street purple this weekend to mark World Polio Day on Sunday.

The colour represents the purple dye used to mark the finger of a child who has been immunised.

The Rotary Club posted online and said: "The Ashby community has been incredibly generous over the years we have been collecting for Polio eradication.

"We hope we can rely on you again on October 23."
