Ashby's Castle Medical Group has assured its patients they will not have to travel to Birmingham or Manchester for their Covid vaccination.

A number of North West Leicestershire people in the over-80s age group have been told their jabs will be given to them, but only if they attend the vaccination centre in Birmingham - a 45 minute drive away for some.

But Castle Medical Group - based at the Ashby Health Centre in Burton Road - confirmed over the weekend that there will be a vaccination hub at Measham Leisure Centre and that they are in the process of contacting patients to arrange appointments.

Castle Medical explains how vaccination process will work

The Group has again stressed you must not call the surgery to ask about vaccination.

The post reads: "We have become aware that letters have been sent out centrally to those over 80 in relation to the Covid Vaccination being offered in Birmingham/Manchester and this may be causing some confusion.

"We would like to reassure patients that the Covid vaccination is being offered locally at Measham Leisure Centre and we are in the process of contacting patients over 80 by telephone to make your appointment.

"Please could you bear with us whilst we work through our list and we will ring you. Please do NOT ring us at this time."
