Ashby Woulds Litter Heroes are recognised by town council for work in keeping area tidy
Ashby Woulds Litter Heroes have been recognised for the work they do in the area.
The group has been awarded the J Stanleigh Turner Moira & Donisthorpe Nursing Cup by Ashby Woulds Town Council.
Organised by Norris Hill resident Hazel McDowell, the Litter Heroes organise regular meets to keep the area loosely defined by Cheatles Barn, Spring Cottage, Albert Village, Willesley Lane and Moira tidy.
Hazel started picking up litter in her immediate area in 2017.
Over time, like-minded people chose to join her and the Ashby Woulds Litter Heroes was born.
The group also comes together for "Big Picks" to smarten up the area for events such as national initiatives or a particularly bad littering event.
The Litter Heroes are supported by Ashby Woulds Town Council, North West Leicestershire District Council and The Railway Inn.
Bill Piper, writing on the Norris Hill Community page, said: "Ashby Woulds Town Council have recognised the Ashby Woulds Litter Heroes for all their hard work around the area.
"Led by local girl, Hazel, I'm sure you will agree that they are worthy recipients of the award.
"There are also many local folk who do their bit in keeping the area litter-free (well almost!).
"Thanks to you all. Of course, the more people who are involved the easier it is, so do get in touch if you would like to help."
