Ashby Town Council hears proposal for ‘Big Ashby Clean Up’

At an Ashby Town Council meeting on Monday 14th July, Ashby Town Council heard an application for £350 to support plans for a 'Big Ashby Clean Up.'
The funding application, which was put forward by the Ashby Civic Society, hoped to unite local people in getting involved in a 'Big Clean' of Market Street in Ashby, which they intend to expand into an annual event covering a wider area of the Town Centre.
In their funding application, the Civic Society wrote: "Small groups and individuals currently volunteer to litter pick, weed and attend to the town centre gardens. The intention is to co-ordinate these into a more coherent larger group so that we can better make sustainable improvements to the town centre which will in turn benefit the local community and businesses."
The Civic Society will use the money granted by the council to pay for cleaning and gardening materials as well as stationery and advertising. They also plan on including a reward system for local shops that have got involved. This could take the form of certificate or sticker to go in a shop window that shows they have backed the Big Clean Up.
The scheme hopes to combine the efforts of local people with businesses and landlords to improve the appearance and experience of those shopping in and visiting Ashby Town Centre.
The Civic Society have not yet set a launch date for the Big Clean but Ashby Nub News hope to work closely with this initiative to share updates on the event.
