Ashby Town Centre: Why Bath Street Works Have Not Happened This Week

By Graham Hill 19th Feb 2020

The work set to be carried out in Ashby town centre this week has been postponed.

Severn Trent Water was due to carry out investigations and repairs, starting last Sunday.

That would have meant a southbound one-way road closure of Bath Street between Kilwardby Street and South Street - with a diversion route from Market Street, through Lower Church Street and South Street.

It seemed as though the town was due for a week of disruption - but it never appeared.

Severn Trent says that, due to an issue with traffic management, it meant the works could not be put in place on the specified day.

Severn Trent is limited by the council as to when work can be carried out, and has to wait for permission.

The work was to perform essential maintenance on Severn Trent's network and not a leak.

But it will happen at some stage.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: "Our work to carry out essential maintenance work on Bath Street has been postponed due to issues with the traffic management needed to do the work safely.

"We're working with the council to agree on another date in the future."
