The owners of Pennies Worth in Ashby have underlined the need to wear a face mask in their store - after what they describe as a 'horrible incident' this morning (Thursday).

The Market Street shop, which opened in November, says customers must use a face covering and apply hand sanitiser when entering to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

This follows a confrontation at the shop which shook the people working there at the time.

Pennies Worth says a man came in without a mask and became agitated when told to wear one before being abusive while purchasing an item.

The shop's Facebook page says: "To all customers please wear a face mask (unless exempt) and use hand sanitiser provided, when visiting us for the safety of staff and customers.

"We will refuse entry to anyone just not wanting to wear a mask without a valid reason.

"We will not tolerate any verbal abusive to staff.

"Just trying to keep everyone safe.

"Unfortunately, due to a horrible incident this morning, we have had to highlight this.

"Thank you to all the customers, who are following the rule.

"Shop owners should not have to tolerate this sort of behaviour or rudeness. Does not cost anything to be polite.

"We run a business and our customer care is fantastic.

"A shame to know some people just think you're there to serve them as a duty, and we don't deserve respect. It's sad to see this and have encountered a few customers like this.

"Majority are amazing lovely people.

"Fair to say, he won't be allowed in again."
