Ashby Pride organisers want to expand it even further next year - after Saturday's successful festival centred on Market Street.

The second year of the event saw town centre roads closed - with a stage featuring live acts throughout the day.

A variety of stalls, plus a mini funfair in Brook Street, made it a family day out - and local businesses also joined in.

Chairs and tables were on the pavement outside bars, as the hoped for 'cafe culture' took hold when the weather improved.

At night, the event moved indoors to the pubs and clubs.

Callum Prince, one of the Ashby Pride organisers, says next year's event will grow again.

He told Ashby Nub News: "We'd like to expand the event again in 2025 and the work towards that begins now.

"We hope to organise a parade next year - as well as moving the event to places off the town centre to get even more people involved."

Callum says it is too early to judge how many people came into the town centre - as it lasted from noon until the early hours of Sunday.

But he believes last year's figures of 3,500 to 4,000 could be matched.

He added: "Everyone concerned had a great time and, although we had security there for the day, they had little to do.

"It was a safe atmosphere which allowed people to enjoy themselves.

"Ashby businesses were present as stallholders and that allowed them to raise their profile.

"That's something we can look at doing more of next year.

"We were a bit worried about the fact there was rain in the air at first, but it turned out to be a really sunny day which added to the occasion.

"Hopefully, this will be on the Ashby events calendar for a long time. We made it bigger and better this year, and the aim is to do that every time.

"We want to thank everyone who supported the day, especially our main sponsors Siemens and Ashby BID."
