Ashby police say the 'vast majority' of drivers were travelling within the speed limit after checks carried out Monday.

Police monitored a total of 88 vehicles in Ashby and Ravenstone - and say a total of 10 were clocked in excess of 30mph.

The latest Neighbourhood Link newsletter says: "Officers from the Ashby Beat Team joined forces with their colleagues from the Forest Beat and combined their efforts to conduct speed enforcement checks in Ashby and Ravenstone village.

"The first speed-check took place on Measham Road, Ashby.

"A total of 55 vehicles were checked and five were found to be travelling above the 30 mph limit

"The second location was Ashby Road, Ravenstone.

"A total of 33 vehicles were checked and once again 5 vehicles were found to be travelling in excess of the 30 mph limit."

The police also explained why the checks had been set up.

They added: "We conduct speed checks and enforce speed limits to improve road safety.

"The checks are conducted because you report back to us that speeding vehicles are a major concern to you and we have taken positive action in response to the issue raised.

"We will also use the results of the checks to support further applications to our Road Safety Unit for Enforcement Van deployment.

"Thank you to the vast majority of motorists that we saw travelling within the speed limit. Those drivers in the minority will hear from us shortly.".
