A group of Ashby nurses are staging a 10k charity walk in memory of a colleague who passed away last year.

A Just Giving page has been set up for Nicola Harden - with all monies raised going to the Winston's Wish charity which helps over 40,000 bereaved children each year.

Now the Ashby District Nurse Team that worked alongside Nicola are getting their walking boots on - on April 24 - for a worthy cause.

The team explained: "Nicola sadly passed away suddenly after a short illness in April 2021.

"In her memory, the Ashby District Nurse Team that worked alongside Nicola are going to complete a 10K Charity Walk.

"Nicola worked for the District Nursing team based at Legion House in Ashby.

"She cared for the local people of Ashby, Measham and Ibstock.

"Nicola first gained her caring experience looking after the residents in the care homes of Ashby - Loudoun House and Ashby Court.

"She then went on to work at the beloved Ashby Community Hospital before it closed.

"Nicola was highly thought of by her patients and their families.

"It was important for her to build a strong relationship with them all, including their carers.

"She had long conversations and listened to them all intently.

"This would then identify how she could best support and care for her patients, enabling them to stay at home.

"This shows her true dedication, she always wanted the best outcome for her patients.

"She was always willing and eager to learn more to improve herself in her role as Assistant Practitioner.

"Nicola always brought a smile to our faces.

"She was the shining light of our team, always ready with a laugh, happy tears and always a hug for those that needed it.

"Nicola has been a great loss to our team, and also to her many patients.

"This is why we would like to show our appreciation by supporting her family and many other families by raising funds and awareness for the wonderful charity, Winston's Wish.

"They are currently helping over 40.000 bereaved children each year."
