Ashby Museum says there will be three things to look out for now that it has re-opened again - including being part of the Earth Museum.

The museum is currently looking for a way to meet a £5,000 shortfall in funds after it was quoted £13,000 to carry out necessary repairs to the building in North Street Fundraiser set up to save Ashby Museum.

But it is pressing ahead with developments now that it has emerged from lockdown and open to the public again.

Museum Director Ken Hillier told Ashby de la Zouch Town Council's annual meeting earlier this month that there are three pieces of good news to look forward to.

Mr Hillier said: "The Earth Museum is a national online museum and it connects and fosters 'global story tellers'.

"We're one of the few East Midlands museums to be involved.

"What we had to do by the end of April was, to give in 25 pictures and write-ups about artefacts, people, places, etc.

"I've done that that and once you go online you can hit 'Ashby de la Zouch Museum' and there will be over 50 artefacts and objects.

"The ones we've put on so far are of our heritage.

"The second piece of good news is that we'll soon have a new touchscreen interactive display in reception.

"This is being set up by Fifth Element Design of Swadlincote.

"There will be short videos on a monitor, we've linked up with Pudding Bag, on places such as the Castle and you'll be able to touch the screen to access them.

"The big plan is that, once we've set them up in the museum, is to have outstations at places such as Legion House and the doctors' surgery where people can come in and look at the heritage of Ashby.

"The third thing is that in June, hopefully, we will see the first of the new blue plaques go up.

"They will tell you about individuals or buildings.

"You may have also noticed the little oval discs on Market Street which represent the courts which number over 30.

'This will be of interest to townsfolk or visitors."
