An online appeal set up to raise money to help with repairs needed to keep Ashby Museum open has smashed its target in less than three days.

Last week, we ran a story about the North Street-based museum needed to spend £13,000 on Health & Safety issues Ashby Museum faces five-figure sum on repairs or it could close.

Museum director Ken Hillier said that the volunteer-run facility would close within a year if the work could not be carried out.

Mr Hillier added that, even if the funds already available to them were spent, that would still leave a £5,000 shortfall.

This led to a number of people showing interest in donating and an Ashby resident, Alan Bowman, has set up a Just Giving page to help save the museum.

The original target was £1,000 but, as of Saturday lunchtime, the total was touching £1,500.

If you would like to donate, you can do so HERE.
