Ashby MP takes part in axe throwing exercise to help mark English Tourism Week

Ashby MP Andrew Bridgen promoted English Tourism Week by taking part in some axe throwing at Field Sport UK this week.

The MP for North West Leicestershire tweeted his involvement at the successful, A family-run, award-winning activity centre based at Lount.

Mr Bridgen posted: "What a lovely morning to be at Field Sport UK for a spot of axe throwing and to celebrate English Tourism Week."

Kelly Wheeler, of Field Sport UK, said: "I had a meeting regarding the new National Forest Corporate Experiences packages aimed at helping work teams reconnect and rebuild a sense of team spirit as they return to office working, through healthy outdoor experiences.

"Tourism Businesses in the Forest have signed up to allow teams to experience an exciting array of activities.

"Thank you to Andrew Bridgen for taking the time to come along and support this great initiative."

English Tourism Week, which ends on Sunday (March 27) is an annual celebration of English tourism.

It highlights the importance, value and vast contribution of the sector makes to the UK economy to stakeholders including, Government, MPs and ministers.

Making up 80 per cent of the UK's visitor economy, English tourism generated over £100 billion a year in 2019 and supported 2.6 million jobs.

It is a major employer of school leavers and young people, as well as an incubator for entrepreneurs and innovation.

It provides a spotlight to put tourism front of mind with key stakeholders and showcase the amazing work that goes on each and every day to build strong and resilient destinations.

Local MPs were supported with the information they need to understand just how important tourism is in their local area.

The theme for this year's English Tourism Week has been "You're Welcome" to send the message that everyone working in tourism is ready and willing to welcome visitors back and are working hard to do so.
