Ashby MP Andrew Bridgen has issued a message of condolence following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Mr Bridgen paid tribute shortly after the news of Prince Philip's death on Friday.

He said: "I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

"Prince Philip was a decorated war hero, he dedicated his life to service of Her Majesty the Queen, to our country and to the commonwealth.

"His contribution to public life was a substantial one as a patron to many charities and a support to our armed forces.

"Of course His Royal Highness will be long remembered for the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which has enhanced the lives of countless young people, including many here in North West Leicestershire.

"My sincere condolences and prayers go to Her Majesty and her family at this sad time for them."
