Leicestershire's only outdoor public swimming pool will open again when Ashby Lido's summer season gets under way later this month.

Families are set a flock to the outdoor attraction when it re-opens on May 28.

Ashby Leisure Centre and Lido, run by Everyone Active on behalf of North West Leicestershire District Council, is a hugely popular facility with the local community.

The pool has been running cold water sessions from early this month and these will continue until Friday, May 27.

The following day, it will be heated further and ready to receive people of all ages and abilities

From May 28 until Sunday, June 5, the pool will be open from 8 am until 10 am for lane swimming, and from 10 am until 6 pm for public swimming.

From Monday, June 6 until Sunday, July 10, the pool will be open for lane swimming from 8 am until 10 am

During these dates the pool will be open at weekends only for public swimming, from 10 am until 6 pm.

From Monday, July 11 until Monday, August 29, the pool will be open from 8 am until 10 am for lane swimming and from 10 am to 6 pm for public swimming

The cost for public swimming online swimming sessions will be £4.30 for adults and £2.90 for children

The outdoor pool area was re-launched in July last year as part of a £1.2 million redevelopment of the site, alongside the changing of name to Ashby Leisure Centre and Lido

Alongside the existing main pool, a large sandpit filled with activities was launched, as was a Splashby Hut serving a range of refreshments

Duncan Gibb, Everyone Active contract manager, said: "We are really looking forward to welcoming families for the summer and to see everyone enjoying the pool, sun and sand.

"As the only public Lido in Leicestershire, we are expecting a busy summer, so would encourage people to book their places early

"Swimming is a hugely important life skill and the Lido allows everyone to enjoy a range of activities"

To book, please use the everyone active app or website.
