Three members of Castle Medical Group in Ashby will be taking part in the Staunton Harold Duathlon next week to raise funds to buy equipment and services which are not available on the NHS.

Dr Nil Sanganee, Dr Pradeep Krishnamurthy and Advanced Nurse Practitioner Tanya Collins will be competing on Sunday, October 17.

They are set to run 5km, cycle 26km and finally run 2.5km to raise funds for the Friends of Castle Medical Group Charity which helps provide equipment which benefits the Burton Road-based surgery's patients.

The Staunton Harold run is on closed roads and trail through the estate grounds.

The bike route is undulating through South Derbyshire countryside, finishing by a picturesque run through the National Forest's Biggin Wood in front of the Hall and lake.

Because of the amazing donations from patients previously, Castle Medical Group has been able to buy a Centrifuge machine which means that it is one of only a few practices that can do blood tests in the afternoon after a standard blood collection late morning from the hospital.

This has helped patients who cannot attend in the morning for a blood test - and improved overall availability.

The charity enabled Castle Medical to purchase an automated blood pressure machine that is available in reception for patients to be able to check their blood pressure at any time, this has also dramatically reduced the number of appointments required with a Health Care Assistant.
