This November, the Ashby and District Probus club is marking its 50th year of providing friendship and social activities for its members, who are all retired professionals and businessmen from the local community.

Probus is an international organisation which has roots dating from 1965 in the two Rotary clubs of Welwyn Garden City and Caterham.

Recognising the desire of older members to continue with just the social aspects of the club in retirement, various informal groups were created and over time these coalesced under the banner of 'Probus' – PROfessional & BUSiness, a name created by the Caterham club.

Individual Probus clubs are autonomous.

The Ashby & District club was founded on 19th November 1973 and has been successfully operating ever since.

Today, the club has around 35 members and runs an active schedule of monthly meetings and social activities which give plenty of opportunity for members to enjoy the fellowship of like-minded retirees and build lasting friendships.

The 50th Anniversary itself is being marked by a formal dinner for members and their partners to be held at the Willesley Park Golf Club on 18th November.

The Ashby club is always looking to increase its numbers and is pleased to welcome any potential new members. If you think it might be for you, why not contact our secretary, Peter Staveley ([email protected]), or visit the website HERE. You'll be sure of a warm welcome.
