Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has launched a register of interest for table bookings ahead of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee street party in Market Street this summer.

The event will be staged in the town centre on Sunday, June 5, between 12noon-3pm.

And the Town Council today (Tuesday) released details of how they will allocate spaces for those who want tables on the day.

The council says: "To make it fair on the whole community, we are creating a register of interest for the table bookings and then names will be drawn from a tombola.

"The closing date for the register of interest is March 1, 2022

"On April 4, the winning names will be drawn

"On April 11, the winners will be contacted."

You can register your interest electronically by filling out the form on the council website HERE.

Plans for the street party were first revealed by the Town Council last June Ashby to hold street party to celebrate Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen has reigned longer than any other British monarch since her accession to the throne in 1952.

Next year marks the 70th anniversary and a four-day Bank Holiday Platinum Jubilee weekend will take place from June 2-5.

The council said last year that a register of interest form would be required to be filled out and then names will be drawn out see who the lucky winners are.

It was decided that drawing out names of people who will be able to attend was a better system than the 'first come, first served' method which has been used previously.

The event will echo the previous street parties in Market Street, with photographs of the 2012 version featuring heavily in the national press.
