Ashby councillors raise more objections to Flagstaff Island works depot plan as scheme comes before committee yet again
Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has again raised objections to fresh plans to to build a works site next door to a hotel, restaurant and service area.
The road related storage, maintenance, management facility and associated site works at Lountside, close to the A42 junction, had already been given outline planning permission.
But it was thrown out by North West Leicestershire District Council last November, who said it was out of character with the surrounding area.
The applicant, Eurogarages, had appealed that decision, but submitted a fresh application in the meantime which was also rejected by Ashby councillors in May.
But the scheme came before the Town Council's planning committee once more last month - and councillors made it clear they remained unimpressed by the proposed development.
The site is next to the Premier Inn which has also objected to the plans.
Cllr Dan Harrison said: "The whole thing is a wretched twist of backwards and forwards.
"Nobody seems to know where they are.
"Any professional local government planning officer should've said: 'Go away and come back when you have a proper application'.
"For some reason, this was granted without the knowledge of Ashby councillors.
"I was only told when a member of the public rang me.
"I'm concerned how this has escalated and we're plodding along saying how shocking it is.
"If you speak out, you're a troublemaker and a terrible person.
"But these are basic things, they're not appropriate and we have to fight hard to avoid this carrying on.
"They've come back again, but we have to be firm.
"I'm concerned, we mustn't take our eye off the ball, or it could be done just like that."
Cllr John Deakin added: "There may be a compensation issue.
"It seems, in principle, the application is not appropriate for this site."
