Ashby councillor working with local sports club for £1.5m improvement to facilities
By Grace Kennington 24th Jun 2026
Ashby Town and North West Leicestershire District and Ashby Town Councillor Kenny Horn is working with five local sports organisations to raise £1.5 million to improve sports and recreation facilities in the town.
Each of the five clubs is applying for a sizeable £250,000 grant to improve and compliment existing facilities.
Three of the five applications are part of a larger match funding opportunity with their affiliated partners.
The clubs working with Cllr Horn are: Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club, Ashby Rugby Club, Ashby Hastings Cricket Club, Ashby Bowling Club and Willesley Park Golf Club.
There are also a number of small clubs working with Horn to apply for smaller grants of £25,000.
Cllr Horn told Nub News: 'I stood for election in 2023 to deliver inward investment in Ashby. Sports and leisure facilities in the town have failed to keep pace with the towns expansion over recent years.
'Sport plays a priceless role in the community improving health and wellbeing. I'm delighted to be working with the local sporting community to improve facilities.'
Ashby Sport, a showcase of the town's fantastic sports clubs and community groups, is taking place on the Bath Grounds on 28 June.
This free to attend event is a great chance to find out more about Ashby's sports, as well as a fun, family day-out with lots of activities to get involved in.
