North West Leicestershire District Council has opened its annual budget consultation, including a proposal to set up a 'Legacy Fund'.

The Legacy Fund will create the opportunity for one-off funding to long term community projects and has been bolstered by the news the district council will receive more funding in Government grants than previously expected.

So far, the Legacy Fund has gained cross party support at NWLDC.

Some of the projects the Legacy Fund could help include investment in community buildings, improving or increasing leisure facilities in the district, and creating and improving walking and cycling routes.

Councillor for North West Leicestershire District Council and Ashby Town Council Kenny Horn said: 'This is something I campaigned for at the end of last year. I have submitted a list of investment projects in Ashby for consideration.

'The list includes a cycle / walking route between Worthington and Hicks Lodge, a new Multi-Sport facility and a number of other ideas to improve community spaces and increase trade in the town.

'The local government landscape is set to change dramatically in the next few years and therefore its important we seize this opportunity. I have reached out to members on all sides to put 'place before party' and work collaboratively for the good of Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

'Nonetheless, as the only Ashby elected member of the governing alliance at NWLDC, I'm determined to see Ashby receive an equal share of inward investment.'

The consultation on the budget is open until Sunday 1 February – click here to find out more.
