Ashby Civic Society has welcomed the new Gateway signs introduced to the town last month.

The distinctive signage depicts the Loudon Memorial on the corner of Bath Street and South Street.

A spokesperson for the Civic Society explained the story behind the new signs: "Some time ago the Neighbourhood Plan team met to discuss how Ashby's signage could be improved.

"We tried to get the Highways Agency to alter the signs on the A42 telling drivers that Ashby is a historic market town and worth a visit.

"Currently only one brown sign mentions the Castle and that is all.

"The Agency were not very interested so the Team concentrated on Gateway signs on the approach roads to the Town.

"You will see the new 'picture' signs which Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has erected with an illustration of the Loudon Memorial. We hope you agree they look pretty good?"
