Ashby charity shop to close
By James Smith 13th May 2026
An Ashby charity shop is set to close alongside nearly 200 other branches nationwide.
The Cancer Research UK shop on Market Street will shut as the national charity axes 190 locations.
Around 90 of those will close by the end of May.
The rest will disappear from the high street by the end of April 2027.
Cancer Research said 320 "high-performing" locations will remain.
Michelle Mitchell, CEO of Cancer Research UK, added: "Without action, we predict many of our shops will become unprofitable.
"This news will be difficult. Our decisions have been taken after serious consideration.
"We're committed to supporting everyone affected by these changes, and will provide clear information and support throughout the process."
A notice on the Ashby shop's website said: "This shop is part of a national shop‑closure programme and is scheduled to close within the next 12 months.
"We are still warmly welcoming volunteers, as they remain essential in helping us raise vital funds for life‑saving cancer research.
"We can offer a great and meaningful volunteering experience for as long as the shop remains open, and we would love to have you with us – even for a limited time.
"To find out more about the expected closure timeline, please speak directly with the Shop Manager."
