The go-ahead has been given for a temporary construction traffic access on the A511 as building work for the new Money Hill Estate is set to begin.

North West Leicestershire District Council has given permission for the access point from the Ashby by-pass to be created.

The work is due to take place north of Nottingham Road and south of the Smisby Road exit.

And, as we reported last month it is due to cause delays on that route for much of the year.

You can read about the expected hold-upsHERE.

A new roundabout on the bypass will be eventually be built to provide access to the new estate.

The housing development is planned to consist of 605 homes, a 60 unit extra care centre, a new primary school and nursery school, a new community hall, a new neighbourhood shop, new public open space and vehicular access from the A511 and Nottingham Road,

However, Monday's meeting of Ashby de la Zouch Town Council claimed a victory in that there will be only one access point for works traffic.

Developers had suggested that the Nottingham Road side of the development would be used - forcing councillors to protest.

Now there is going to be 'very limited access' from Nottingham Road.

Concerns were raised about this issue more than a year ago, you can read that article HERE.

Cllr Mike Ball told the committee meeting: "I was pleased to hear that the pressure put on by the town council has resulted in a big change to the access arrangements fromNottingham Road.

"Councillors were aghast after all the assurances given over the years, only to find, just two weeks ago, that anybody and everybody could access from Nottingham Road.

"It would appear that we have something in front of us that is in accord with the local plan.

"After more pressure from the town council, there is now provision of safe walking and cycling into Ashby town centre."
