Ashby boxer Liam Parker admitted he felt like he had been 'run over by a train' after his marathon 150 round fundraiser on Saturday.

Liam took part in the charity event at the Motiv8 gym in Bakery Court - and it was the first time he had put himself through the gruelling effort.

But he said it was more than worth it - as he estimates he could have raised as much as £2,000 for his two chosen charities.

That is four times more than expected - and Phoenix Children's Foundation in Packington and Mental Mate, which supports adults and children with mental health issues, are both set to benefit.

Liam admits there are times when he struggled to get through it.

But, fuelled by bananas and energy drinks, he reached his target after sparring with a range of gym members during the day which began at 10am and ended just after 6pm.

Liam is the head coach at Motiv8 and he told Ashby Nub News about his efforts - previously, the most he had ever taken on for charity was 100 rounds.

He said: "I got it done in the end!

"There was a mid-point around rounds 75 to 81 where I had a bad cramps in my calves.

"I ended up doing a couple of rounds more or less hobbling around on one leg.

"But my team looked after me and massaged my legs between rounds while icing me down between rounds.

"I managed to get through that 'wall'.

"And I was fine then. But then until about round 140 and the last 10 were very difficult.

"The next day, I felt like I'd been run over by a train!

"Everything was sore - I had muscles I didn't realise could get that sore!"

But Liam says the aim of the day was to raise money for the charities - and it has gone better than expected.

He added: "It went better than expected, we're just shy of £1,500 at the moment.

"And we hope we can hit the £2,000 mark eventually.

"It's more than we expected, we were aiming for the £500 mark."
