The A42 near Ashby was closed northbound today (Wednesday) after a truck came off the road.

Highways East Midlands says there was an 'extensive recovery' ongoing while the HGV was moved.

A social media post said: "The A42 is now closed northbound between J11 - Appleby Magna and J12 - Ashby-de-la-Zouch - due to an HGV which has left the carriageway.

"Due to extensive recovery, the road will remain closed until recovery is complete.

"There are delays of 30 minutes delays on approach."

The road was closed shortly before 1pm today (Wednesday).

Highways East Midlands posted details of a suggested diversion on its website.

  • Exit the M42 northbound at Junction 11 and take the fifth exit (right) off the roundabout onto the
  • A444 southbound.
  • Continue southbound passing through Appleby Parva to the B4116 junction at Twycross.
  • At the A444/B4116 mini roundabout junction turn left (north) onto the B4116.
  • Proceed northbound along the B4116 and then turn left onto Leicester Road/Swepstone Road, then immediately right (staggered junction) to re-join the B4116 Gallows Lane northbound.
  • Continue along the B4116 northbound to the B4116/B5006 junction. At the junction turn right (northbound) onto the B5006 to the A42 J12 southern roundabout.
  • At the roundabout go straight on to the northern roundabout (passing under the A42) and take the second exit to re-join A42 northbound at J12.

But the route was re-opened later in the day.
