Here is a reminder of the list of candidates all battling for a seat on North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) ahead of this week's local government elections.

Voters will take to the polls this Thursday, May 4, to decide which party and which candidate they want to represent them on the council for the next few years.

All 38 of the council's seats will be up for grabs in the upcoming election and unlike many other authorities, each ward is represented by just one councillor. There are 38 wards across the district.

The Conservative Party hold a strong majority on the council having won 22 of the 38 seats at the last election in 2019.

Its main political rival on the council are the Labour Party, who had eight representatives elected.

The Liberal Democrats currently have four sitting representatives on the council and are looking to make gains in the area, having nominated a large number of candidates across the district.

There are also three independent councillors currently sitting.

The 38 elected councillors will then take the responsibility for a range of services in the local area, such as housing, planning, waste collection and social care.

It will also be in charge of ensuring the council's budget is in order and set the council tax rates for coming years.

Residents will need to take ID such as their passport or drivers licence with them to be able to vote.
