A new mayor for Ashby and Blackfordby

ASHBY de la Zouch has a new mayor.
At the annual meeting of the Town Council, held on Monday, 18 May, Cllr Murrae Blair-Park was formally appointed as new Mayor for the 2026/2027 municipal year.
The ceremony included the traditional and symbolic handing over of the mayoral chains of office.
Outgoing Mayor, Cllr Damilola Ojuri, officially transferred the responsibilities and regalia to Cllr Blair-Park, signifying the commencement of his mayoral duties.
Cllr Ojuri was warmly thanked for her dedicated service and leadership throughout the 2025/26 term. Members agreed that during her mayoral year, Cllr Ojuri represented the town with distinction and commitment.

The career of new mayor Cllr Blair-Park spans 48 years across the private, public, and third sectors. he says: "My professional journey is defined by service, leadership, and community commitment, via, retail, hospitality, and leisure, before taking on roles within the Ministry of Justice, where I currently serve, contributing my experience to public service at a national level.
"Alongside my professional career, I am an active district and town councillor and a dedicated father of my three children, Angus, Oscar and Ysobel, I am also the proud companion of Wes, my energetic working cocker spaniel.
"I am very keen on sports, especially as a participant and can be seen weekly playing at Ashby Castle tennis club as well as supporting the children when they compete. I am a Toffee and I am a big Six Nations and Tigers fan.
"I consider it a privilege to serve as Mayor of Ashby De La Zouch where I am inspired by our exceptional council staff who in conjunction with the huge contribution made by the incredible army of volunteers who contributes to our town, which supports and improves the lives of everybody who lives in Ashby and Blackfordby."
