1,500 runners are set to take part in Ashby 20 on Sunday 22 March.

Runners from across the country are preparing for the long-distance road race that has been taking place since 1989.

The 20 mile race is a popular choice for runners preparing for spring marathons and is a not-for-profit race built on community spirit and entirely run by volunteers.

Every year, hundreds of volunteers, including local running club members, community groups and supporters, give their time to make the race possible.

From course marshals and water stations team to event organisers and medical support, volunteers are the back bone of the race.

Just a few of the local groups supporting the event include: Ivanhoe Runners, Odyssey Explorer Scouts, Ashby Spa WI, LeicSAR and Conkers Park Run.

Ashby 20 is also firmly dedicated to giving back, supporting a range of charitable causes that they have donated thousands over the years to Wishes 4 Kids, Heartwize, Bright Hope North West Leicestershire and Leicestershire Teenage Cancer Trust.

Race Director Richard Bebbington said: 'Ashby 20 is built on the passion and dedication of volunteers. Without the incredible support of the local community, this event simply would not exist.'
